About Me - Dr Shara B.A. Cohen I have been interested in science for longer than I care to remember, being a member of the British Association of Young Scientists from the age of 15. In the 80's I studied Applied Biology (BSc-1985) and went on to focus on Immunology (PhD-1989). I then took my research to New York for a few years, returning to the UK in 90's where I became a senior scientist, university lecturer and head of a research group. I left mainstream science on the birth of my first daughter in 2000 and established and currently manage Euroscicon . I also founded and oversee Mums in Science. I have over 100 publications, including scientific papers, books and book chapters and have been active in bringing science to the non-scientist, by written communications and television. About My Work
I run a company called Euroscicon which specializes in producing unique Life Science Events. Our meetings offer scientists a valuable opportunity to move forward with current research, methodological and technical developments, with a good mix of high quality talks from both academic speakers and companies. I also established the popular science portal - Mums in Science - for busy mums who work or have worked in any area of science (and am currently the Chief Executive Officer). Is Private Health Insurance Justified for a Small Business?

I am a great fan of the National Health Service. My eldest brother was born ill and survived for 42 years with enormous support from UK national health system. If he had been born in a country without free health care my parents would be broke and he would probably have not seen his 20th birthday. Having also worked in many teaching hospitals I am convinced that if you are critically ill the best place to be is on an NHS ward in a big teaching hospital. There you are most likely to get the most up to date treatment with a specialist who is really at the forefront of their field. I have, however spent the past week searching the internet for different private health packages for my employees and me and have invited my employees to take up this company health insurance (when I find the best package) for them and their family.
